Grill Safety

Light up the grill, invite guests over and party on the patio until the sun goes down because summer is here. Grilling is the perfect reason to take any meal outdoors, and almost any food you can think of can be grilled. From pizza to kabobs, you name it…you can grill it.

However, grilling can be dangerous. According to the National Fire Protection Association an average of 8,800 home fires are caused by grilling each year and about half of grilling injuries are due to thermal burns. Mr. Appliance has a few tips that will help make summer grilling safe and easy.

· Keep it outside: To prevent fires, never use a propane or charcoal grill inside.

· Keep grease to a minimum: Regularly check and clean your grease tray to prevent grease or fat buildup.

· Watch out for fire hazards: Prevent potential fires by placing grills away from the home, railings and overhanging tree branches.

· Keep kids away: Grills heat quickly and can cause severe burns, prevent potential injuries by keeping children away from the grilling area.

· Check for leaks: If using a propane grill, check your propane tank and hose regularly for leaks. If you see bubbles start to form, close your propane tank and turn off the grill immediately.

· Cook food thoroughly: Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of food items. Check for a list of the safe minimum cooking temperatures different foods should be prepared to.
